The Project
One of Jesmonite’s most appealing features is its ability to be used for intricate details, such as recreating a haunted house made out of Lego.
Legoland is one of the most popular family attractions in the country and the recently opened Haunted House Monster Party contains a number of features created with Jesmonite.
The project had to be created to precise specifications and GH Leisure, based in Salisbury, decided that Jesmonite AC100 was the perfect fit.
Mike Tubb, project manager at GH Leisure, said:
“We worked with Merlin previously on the Tiger Rock at Chessington, they were happy with our work and asked if we would be interested in the Haunted House project at Legoland. We were delighted to accept.
“It was quite a challenge because everything had to be absolutely perfect in terms of scale, thickness and depth. Every part had to be exactly 25 times the size of the Lego piece and everything was measured and scrutinised in the most minute detail, it had to be just right and that’s not a job for the faint-hearted!
“It probably took about five months to complete from beginning to end. We worked off drawings in the first place then bought a Lego model of the Haunted House, which was very expensive because it’s no longer available, and built a scaled-up model of the Lego pieces from that.
“We used Jesmonite for all the detail around the windows, the porch above the front door and on the underside of the windows at the top of the house, there are 17 windows in total. Decals added a nice finishing touch to the top of the building.
“It’s the first time we have used Jesmonite. Someone we worked with previously recommended them and we couldn’t be happier with the end product.
“We wanted to work with a material which would fit in with the surroundings and produce a polished finish. We want to move away from fibreglass and Jesmonite is a nicer, safer, material. You can manipulate and work with it a lot easier, it ticks all the right boxes and the finished article speaks for itself.
“Tim from Jesmonite went through the pros and cons, support was there all the way through the project and nothing was a problem. Everyone is over the moon with the overall finish and we look forward to our next project with Jesmonite.”
Tim Sharman, Jesmonite sales director, said:
“We are delighted to have been part of the Haunted House project, Mike and his team have done a truly wonderful job in circumstances where precision was key.
“Jesmonite has once again proved to be the best option for a major building project because of its flexibility, chameleon-like characteristics, being far safer to use than other alternatives and it is also kinder on the environment.”
