Design & Visual Concepts based in Kent are regular clients and users of Jesmonite in their projects.
One of their recent projects involving Jesmonite took place over three weeks at 200 Hammersmith Road in London within a budget of £37,000. Michael Arney, Design & Visual Concepts Projects Director, takes up the story:
200 Hammersmith Road has 38,000 square feet of office space, made up of 5,800 square feet of roof terrace, breakout areas and an atrium lounge.
We were commissioned to manufacture black Jesmonite AC730 panels with a rope pattern installed onto a framework hook and rail system, conforming to the architect’s vision and design of a rope theme concept running throughout the build.
In order to achieve the brief we needed a methodology which would allow us to replicate the look of the rope to feature in the Jesmonite wall panels. This was achieved through the manufacture of a fibreglass model using a zinc profile to obtain the dome inserts.
Ropes were then laid into the inserts and the model was stabilised. A rubber mould was created from the model and we then created the Jesmonite panels from the mould.
Jesmonite is ideal in the replication of the appearance and texture of almost anything. It’s durable, flexible, strong, lightweight, replicates the finest of details, is safe to use and environmentally friendly. Its ability to replicate textures and colours to suit specific needs makes it the ideal solution for projects such as this.
We needed to produce a bespoke colour for the Hammersmith Road commission, something we create ourselves, and then sought approval prior to manufacturing.
It is an extremely important process to ensure the same quantities of each colour type were used from the same batches in order to achieve colour consistency throughout manufacturing.
It was necessary to implement a strict quality control process throughout the project – but the client was extremely pleased with the end result.
