What does Jesmonite mean?

We sometimes get asked, what does Jesmonite mean?

People sometimes think Jesmonite is a name for all resins, all types of materials that work in the same way or all types of products that are bright and beautiful… but it’s none of those!

Jesmonite is our brand name and our unique product.

Simple as that!

Yes, it’s a type of material that works in a similar way to some resins, but our brand is unique and if the label doesn’t say Jesmonite, then it isn’t Jesmonite!

Ultimate chameleon material

Jesmonite materials are two-part kits, a liquid and a powder. When combined, the materials can create an array of colours, textures and finishes.

We describe it as the ultimate chameleon material, it is a concrete alternative and can be used for a wide variety of decorative purposes to create anything from jewellery, through coasters and table tops to even a building facade or other aspects of the architectural industry!

With Jesmonite there are endless possibilities – it can be mixed with all manner of materials (have you seen the work of some Japanese creatives who mixed it with screws, wood, leaves, scrap irons and even fungi? Or Adrian Jacobs who combined Jesmonite with his wood turning expertise?).

It can also replicate any textures and fine details, so there may well be Jesmonite around you and you don’t even realise it (I bet you didn’t think of Jesmonite when you saw this  from the Fake Food Workshop…).

From terrazzo designs, marbling techniques and mixing exclusive colours, these are just a few ways that Jesmonite can make your pieces bespoke.

So just because something is a resin, doesn’t mean it’s Jesmonite!

How is Jesmonite different from the copy cats?

Jesmonite is non-toxic and can be used in the home, even with the whole family!

Our materials are water-based, making them kinder to the environment, and our ingredients are sourced through local supply chains to keep CO2 emissions and carbon footprint to a minimum.

As well as the many creative possibilities with Jesmonite, this brand differs from its competitors as we put the environment at the centre of our business too – we have replaced and will continue to replace plastic packaging with cardboard where possible.

And Jesmonite is determined to achieve the goal of supplying eco-friendly products across the globe and achieve carbon neutral status.

The history

Jesmonite was invented by the late Peter Hawkins in the early 1980s, he developed our most popular product, AC100 and it is still sold worldwide today.

There have been many other variations of Jesmonite created since – but all are branded with the company logo so you know it’s the real deal.

So now you’re absolutely sure it’s Jesmonite you want, the official brand version and not a fake to give you the best creation you long for.
